Bob: Hi, I’m Bob Clark.
Donna: And I’m Donna Botti. We’re with Delos Inc and we make the web work for you. In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode, we’re talking about some of the resources Google has to help you spark content ideas and research marketing within your industry.
Bob: Yes Donna, they run a website, “Think With Google” which highlights research, data analysis, and trends that provide insights for marketers about consumer behavior.
Donna: They have a number of reports, articles, and tools for marketers on the site. For example, a recent article explores how the pandemic may affect holiday shopping.
Bob: A large number of people say they are not comfortable shopping in person because of the pandemic. And more than a third of U.S. shoppers who normally shop in-store for Black Friday say they’re not going to do it this year.
Donna: Even before the pandemic, more online shopping was a trend. Last year, shoppers reported that 58% of the purchases they made were online. This year we expect those numbers will grow as almost 75% of shoppers said they will shop online. One of the other interesting things they found in this research is that when people do plan to shop in person, they’re going to research online first.
Bob: And the good news for small businesses is that two-thirds of people say they’re going to shop more at local small businesses. And some are even going to use the option of curbside pick up as well at those local stores.
Donna: The challenge and the opportunity for small businesses is to have your online presence reflect and be in sync with your in person operations. Make it easy for people to research their options with you in order to plan a visit. I see that happening today with restaurants and takeout for example. With so many having different hours and menus – those that provide up-to-date information and easy ordering is where consumers decide to take their business. If it’s not clear what’s currently being offered, or how you are operating today, you’re likely losing business because we all want convenience.
