Happy New Year! In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode, we’re closing out the year and getting our marketing ready for the new year with our Tune-Up for 2021 program. It covers all the basic things you need to have in place for a successful digital marketing plan.
So far we’ve discussed a lot of foundational areas, what you are going to say, how you’re going to do it, and today we’re going to talk more about your content, the planning, the batching, the scheduling, and ways to get your message out to your audience.
Bob: Yeah Donna, your short videos have been a hit! The things you’ve been covering are a great check up to tune up your marketing for the new year.
I should remind everyone that they can get a link to the signup form, which is DelosInc.com/tuneup2021, so you can catch up on all the information you’ve talked about so far.
Donna: That’s right Bob. The Tune Up for 2021 program is meant to be a checklist of the action steps that you’ll need for a great foundation for a great year. One of the checklist items discussed last week was about time saving tips to help you in this process.
I know that one of the biggest things people tell us is that it’s hard to find the time to do this stuff. Well I’m a big fan of repurposing your content. When you go through the trouble of creating great content, it’s best to figure out how to use it in multiple ways. Your top five blog posts for example, can also be five different social media posts, a video you record or the audio for your podcast, as well as content for email marketing.
Bob: That’s right. Another time saver is to batch your marketing tasks. The planning, the writing, creating social media graphics, getting your emails done and scheduling social posts can all be batched.
Plan it out three months at a time. Write all your emails for each month, and schedule them for the same days and times. Task switching takes a lot of time so grouping like tasks together in batches can save you time.
Then you can schedule ahead. Take advantage of the scheduling features of the tools you are using – whether it is blog posts, emails or social media. There are built in scheduling tools as well as there are some third party platforms like Buffer, Promo Republic and HootSuite that make it really easy.
Donna: These steps save you time when you have a plan and the first step is to get it on the calendar. That crisp new 2021 calendar you have is a great place to start.
Start out with broad monthly themes, and some of these will tie into seasons of your business or the year. Many businesses and nonprofits have cycles – whether that’s tax season, back to school, holidays like New Year’s or Mother’s Day, or any other major events throughout the year.
In addition to seasons you might have a new product or service launch, or specific areas of your business you want to focus on at certain times of the year. These are the broader themes you’ll want to add to the calendar.
Then add to this the content you want to create – I wanna do an email every week, a blog post every month, podcasts, videos and the social media mix you defined.
Bob: That makes it easy Donna. It’s so true if you don’t write it down and schedule it, it doesn’t happen.
And if this is too much for you to work on, I have to remind you that at Delos Inc, we can help you with this. Remember, we make the web work for you!
Donna: We do! We also are happy to educate you on the processes so you can decide the best use of your time, and what you like to do if you want to do it yourself. The key is to make it manageable with a plan.
Don’t forget though that you want your audience to take some action.
Don’t rely on people figuring out what you want them to do. You have to tell them and make it easy for them to do it.
Your digital marketing efforts should always include a simple and clear call to action. Some examples are: add to cart, get a quote, learn more, read more, sign up, visit our store, listen, watch, buy now. You get the point.
It’s a new year, with new opportunities and we want you to succeed in growing your business.
Bob: That’s it for today’s episode. We hope you all have a Happy New Year. You can find a link and a transcript of today’s podcast, and a transcript of today’s podcast, at DelosInc.com/166.
