CREATING CONSISTENT CONTENT
What does having consistent content mean and how will it help your content plan?
A simple example used in the attached Heidi Cohen article is the newspaper feature, Dear Abby, a regular occurring advice feature. We may not follow a newspaper column today, but the principle of a regular, consistent feature to build an audience still applies. Having a regular feature in your marketing calendar sets expectations and provides structure for your content. It also helps save you time in the process.
What repeatable content do you have in your calendar? Examples might include a product of the week, associate of the month, or weekly tip. Our Tech News Tuesday is a perfect example of a consistent content format.
SPEED MATTERS
Google has a tendency to set standards for the internet. When they decided to identify websites not using HTTPS as “not secure” in Chrome, the percentage of sites that switched to HTTPS increased dramatically. Now Google is experimenting with labeling slow websites.
Now Google hasn’t determined exactly how they’re going to do that yet, but they’re looking at some different options, for example a loading page that includes a caution warning and the words “usually loads slow.” Google is looking at this since most users will click away when a site takes too long to load and they want to provide a good experience for searchers. As should you, read on for some tips on speeding up your site.
The bottom line is be aware of your website speed. Not just for Google, but for your audience as well. Maybe it’s time to do an audit of your website and images to ensure it is working as fast as possible.
HO! HO! HO!
Play games, email the North Pole, and track Santa’s journey.
We have a few favorite sites and apps for tracking Santa today. EmailSanta.com has a live webcam of the North Pole, lots of jokes, trivia games and more. NORAD tracks Santa uses the same technology (jets, radars, & satellites) that defends the skies over North America, and has video, games and other live updates on Santa’s location. The Google Santa tracker not only lets you track Santa and play games, you can even learn to code with Santa’s elves.
TIPS TO SECURE YOUR SITE
Hackers aren’t necessarily targeting you specifically, but there are armies of bots looking for any vulnerabilities to exploit.
- Create secure passwords.
- Make sure that only the people who need access to your site, have access to your site.
- Keep all your software updated.
- Use a Web Application Firewall to intercept known bot traffic to your website.
- Use an SSL certificate.
- Don’t forget to schedule regular backups in case anything should happen.
