With all the hype around AI and how it can help with writing, coding and research, can AI tools also be a personal assistant? As a business owner with lots of demands on my time, my personal life is also a priority. In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode, we share how we used ChatGPT to plan our 4th of July BBQ.
Here’s how it went.
Describing the Event for ChatGPT
We recently used ChatGPT, an AI tool, to plan our 4th of July BBQ
First off, we described for ChatGPT what the event was all about – a barbecue for 25 people, a mix of adults and children, with some of the adults being foodies (of course). We wanted a complete menu that included appetizers, sides, and desserts including some items that could be made ahead.
The BBQ Menu
The menu was really good! From a savory charcuterie board and caprese skewers for starters, to BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, grilled chicken skewers, and portobello mushroom burgers for the main, the suggestions were delicious. For sides, we had coleslaw, corn on the cob, mac and cheese, and a fresh watermelon feta salad. Desserts? Mini berry trifles, peach cobbler, and a s’mores station – what a great idea for the station!
From creating a delicious menu to organizing a preparation schedule, it saved a lot of time!
Letting ChatGPT Prep and Schedule
With additional prompting, it went on to suggest a detailed prep and cooking schedule to ensure everything was ready on time, and even helped figure out how much beer and wine we would need for the adults. On top of all this, it suggested some great outdoor games to keep everyone entertained. Finally, it helped create a shopping list and a fun email invitation for the guests.
We didn’t ask for specific recipes or quantities in the shopping list, but we could have done that as well. (I like the option to buy some pre-made things instead of making everything from scratch. For example, I’d definitely get the Costco mac and cheese!)
We’ve linked the entire conversation here, so you can see how it went.
ChatGPT as a Business Tool
So, you might be thinking, “Great BBQ, but how does this relate to my business?”
AI tools are really just at the beginning of what they can do. It’s worth looking at business and personal planning and thinking about how these tools can save you time, give you ideas, and automate repeating tasks.
AI tools aren’t just for personal planning, they can help with your business tasks as well.
Some business ideas include:
- Drafting engaging marketing emails and social media posts.
- Generating blog content ideas.
- Repurposing content you have for another format, for example writing a video script based on a blog.
- Helping create a project plan or proposal.
- Conducting market research.
The possibilities are almost endless. The key takeaway is that AI can not only help save valuable time, but can also contribute significantly towards enhancing business operations and helping with personal tasks.
We saved time planning the BBQ, leaving more time to actually enjoy it! What are the tasks where an AI assistant could do the heavy lifting for you?
